-- LIKES; Writing, reading, books, the smell of paper, cheesy romantic-comedies, s'mores, her family, looking good, cameras, long summer days, sunshine, fires, trying to look older than she is, being known, and photo shoots
-- DISLIKES; Nicknames, rumours, gossip, bitches, lies, the fact that she's shallow, Tianna Graves, small houses, people who assume things too easily, jumping to conclusions, really bright colours, violence, drama in real life, bad plot lines, and how her parents don't support her choices
-- SECRETS; She doesn't like to talk about her now-finished high school life; as far as she is concerned, nobody needs to know. But it can sometimes be easy to change her mind
-- FEARS; School, or anything to do with school; and people from her past (especially Tianna, but that's only to be expected)
-- HABITS; After cleaning something completely, she feels the need to go through it and make it a little bit messy on purpose; she avoids all schools like the plague; she takes "mental health days" to lounge around in her PJ's and watch TV
-- GOALS; What she'd really love is to be an author. She writes short stories and works on novels a lot; her waitressing job in a tiny diner gives her the time to do that

-- HISTORY; Serah. She's pretty. It fits her name, her personality, her life -- at least now. For Serah, life is good. The only downsides are that her parents seem to be unable to see her as an author, her lifelong dream; she's always having to tell people how to spell her name, with an E instead of that first A in it; and, of course, her entire school life, beginning in the fourth grade all the way up until graduation.
As the third of eight children, Serah's had to be capable of taking care of herself; her older siblings were too high up on the Ladder of Awesome, as they referred to it, to look after her, and her parents' attention was always diverted from her from around the moment that the twins were born a year after herself. Neither of their parents had any siblings, which made them somehow want a million kids: brace yourself, there's a lot of them. Rhiannon is the oldest, at twenty-two. Trystan's twenty-one; then comes Serah. Seventeen-year-old twins Payton and Piper come next; Shaelynne is sixteen, Jonathan eleven, and the baby of the family is nine-year-old Opal. Two boys, six girls. Eight children is a lot to manage, especially when your parents aren't exactly the wealthiest people in the world -- in fact, far from it.
Serah has always looked a little younger than her age -- with the added bonus of having brown hair instead of her family's general blonde, and with her being somewhat of a loner, even as a child, she was an ample target for her multitude of classmates to pick on. In the second grade, the "popular" girl -- then, and still -- Tianna Graves marched up to Serah on the playground and announced, in front of everyone, that not only had she seen Serah picking her nose, but that she'd eaten it. Smiling to the chorus of laughter at her little lie, Tianna Graves went on her way.
It might have started out as something harmless; she might have been bored, she might have just decided that it might be fun to make something up about the girl who had no friends. Only it kept going. Serah never told her parents a thing about how Tianna tormented her at school, turned everyone against her, and it stretched on for years, getting worse as it went. It all added up into the growing pile of lies, and there seemed to be one particular event per year which stood up above all the others.
Grade three; Tianna stole all of Serah's cards on Valentine's Day, the kind that everybody gave to everybody else just because it was nice, and threw them in a mud puddle outside the school. Grade four; Serah lost her tooth on the field at recess, and Tianna stepped on it, grinding it into the dirt with one shiny black ballet flat. Grade five; on the elementary school graduation camping trip, Tianna triumphantly accused Serah of peeing in her sleeping bag (it was really Wanda Horton, who never owned up to it).
Middle school. It's supposed to be a fresh start, but apparently not for Serah -- in grade six, Tianna stood up on a cafeteria table and made a lengthy speech about how she still drank her juice out of sippy-cups. In the seventh grade, she paid Brandon Myles to ask Serah out and then show up with another girl. Grade eight rolled around, and Tianna wrinkled her nose across the gym change room at Serah and told her that she was ugly, and that she would never, ever get any boyfriend of any kind, even the nerdy ones.
At the end of grade eight was when Serah's parents found out about all of this, hearing it from Payton and Piper, who had heard all the rumours flying around about their older sister. They tried to put Serah in counseling, which didn't turn out well because Serah refused to say anything. In an effort to remove Serah from the very presence of Tianna Graves, they transferred her to Darrow Preparatory School. It didn't matter to Serah where she went for high school -- it wasn't as though she had any friends at her old school, anyways.
Somehow, though, Tianna caught wind of the transfer and managed to get her own parents to send her to Darrow Prep, as well. What a stroke of luck, right? At Darrow, Tianna made friends quickly, new friends to turn against Serah, too. Grade nine -- Serah tried to appear more grown-up, more sophisticated. She'd always looked a little younger than she really was, and she hated it. Of course, grown-up meant more mature, which meant the new nickname of Slutty Serah. Grade ten -- she discovered creative writing. Short stories and pieces of novels, mostly; she wasn't much good at poetry. Tianna turned the way that Serah always had paper and pens with her into a rumour that she was writing porn. Grade eleven -- anyone that talked to Serah was shunned until they, too, left her alone. And finally, grade twelve, Serah's last year of high school -- and, she hoped, of school in general. There was gaffiti in every girls' bathroom in the building, reading Down with Slutty Serah, and quite a few lengthy conversations between bathroom-goers about who she was rumoured to have slept with this weekend. Nobody seemed to clue into the fact that nobody risking their social status to talk to her meant that she'd never even kissed anyone, let alone slept with them.
Grad was a relieving thing to come, aside from the fact that Tianna had bribed the valedictorian to add in a few veiled insults especially for Serah into his speech, and the way that as Serah crossed the stage, several of her classmates went into mysterious coughing fits that sounded eerily similar to "whore" and "hoebag" and "slut."
Serah doesn't like to talk about her now-finished school life. As far as she is concerned, nobody needs to know. It's her little secret.
Just four days into summer of 2010, Serah's parents discovered that she had no intentions of going to college. Needless to say, they were not pleased -- both Rhiannon and Trystan were already going to the University of Chicago, which was something that Mr and Mrs Croswell had encouraged since birth. Serah's parents are completely against the notion of a college-less adult, and the arguments throughout the first half of the summer were so frequent that Serah ended up moving out. The ties to her family are too strong, though -- they are, after all, the ones who kept her at least half sane throughout her years of torment in school -- and she visits as much as possible, although she does her best to come at times when either her parents aren't there to argue with her more, or when there are too many other people there to stage any sort of fight.
Serah wants to be an author. That's her dream, the one her parents honestly don't support because they say that it's not a "stable" enough job, no set income or guarantee that you'll be successful. They say she needs a back-up job, and according to them, her waitressing job at a small diner here in Newport Harbor isn't enough. But with the tiny amount of customers that the Diner gets, it gives Serah a lot of time to write.
