Shona entered the small gift shop of the hotel she'd been staying in. Ever since she'd gotten into a fight with her vocarious mother and angry, half of the time drunk father, she'd run away from home in attempt to right things herself. She'd decided to temporarily live in The Four Seasons, the most prestegious hotel in Vancouver. At least here, she could sleep and eat and do anything she pleased in actual peace. Until she was ready to go home, she'd have to scrape enough money together and pay for her temporary rent here.
Shona dragged her fingers along the small nick-knacks that the gift shop had lined up on their neat little metal rows. It was just like Wal-Mart in here. Except, instead of the cheap quality foods, it was cheap little souvenirs. She picked out a small pen and notebook (a temporary diary) and brought them up to her room after she bought them.
dear diary,
i'm still in the middle of the fight with mom and dad. how can i escape the way i feel? they wouldn't let me get my damn license. i'm 16 years old. seriously? i don't know what do to. damien isn't answering my calls. it feels like my life is falling apart. maybe i don't know anything about my life after all? i feel like a freak. maybe there's something wrong with me. i feel like everyone's avoiding me. even my own boyfriend. how do i know that everything will be alright in the end? exactly. no assurance of that. i'm staying in the Four Seasons hotel for the remainder of. . well, the remainder of the fight. i have to figure out a way to make things right.
so long. gonna do some research on the comp, then watch some television. gonna crash afterwards.

As Zaryn Kate Oliver stared up at the Four Seasons hotel before her, it started to rain. She hated rain. What happened to April showers bring May flowers? Wasn't it May? Shouldn't it, by the laws of nature, be sunny? That was how the world was supposed to work. And Zee had always disliked it when the world didn't work how it was meant to.
But here she was, a pretty girl with insanely curly blonde hair, and dark brown cowboy boots that she hoped more than anything wouldn't get ruined in what would soon be a downpour, and her orange sundress swishing lightly around her legs as she took a few steps towards the hotel. She wasn't even staying there, although if anyone with a camera spotted her, that was what the whole world would think by tomorrow morning, she was sure.
Someone pushed their way out of the hotel, opening a plain old black umbrella. Zaryn had always hated plain old black umbrellas. They were so boring; she much preferred interesting bright colours that stood out among the shadow-like qualities of the rest of the world's rain-guards. Zaryn caught the door handle with one hand and hauled the heavy door open again before it could close completely. All she really wanted was to get out of this damn rain.

Shona shut her notebook and put down the pen onto the oak table. It was time for a walk; she needed to get away from her angry world that she'd been trapped in. As she got up from the bed, she made up her mind to head downstairs to the hotel lobby. Maybe she'd find something to distract herself from everything that was going on.
Shona entered the small, handkerchief-sized hotel lobby and sat down on one of the fancy upholstered couches, immediately catching sight of someone sitting directly across from her. Could it be?! Zaryn Kate Oliver? THE famous singer? Beautifully magnificent? No way. She needed an autograph. Right now.
In a hurry, Shona ran towards the manager's desk and grabbed a ballpoint pen. She rushed over to Zaryn, sitting so perfectly on one of the cushioned seats like a princess, and spoke in a rush. "Zaryn! Zaryn! I'm Shona Dillards. . . I'm a HUGE fan. Please, can i ahve your autograph?!" Shona knew she sounded crazy but she didn't care. It was either now or never that she'd get to meet a famous person. Because, whether she liked it or not, sooner or later her parents would find her and she'd be grounded until the world ended.

WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- It seemed as though the weather in Vancouver was ever changing. One minute the sun would be shining and the next, rain rain rain. Today was another one of those days it seemed. Rhiannon had been running errands when the weather started to act up. Her car was parked four blocks away, and there was no way she would be walking to it if it meant getting soaked. The Four Seasons hotel was just across the street, and Rhi ran towards it, trying to hold her hood on over her head. They were bound to be selling umbrellas at the gift shop. This was the northwest, after all. The umbrellas were bland and overpriced, but money had never been an issue for her. Rhiannon shelled out the cash and exited the bookstore.
As she stared out the glass doors at the rain falling down, Rhi was not eager to walk back into the cold. A sharp squeal broke her train of thought and she turned to see a younger girl running frantically. Following her with her eyes, she saw that the girl was running towards Zaryn Oliver, a noted celebrity singer. Sure, Rhiannon liked the girl's albums, but she was not one to lose her cool. Besides, this interaction was far more entertaining to watch than be involved with. She inched closer to see how Zaryn would react to the teenage her rushing her. She had heard that the singer could have a bit of an attitude, and she liked that in a person. Well, as long as they weren't using it on her.
In a flurry, the young girl dropped her pen and could do nothing but stare in disbelief at her idol before her. Shaking her head, Rhiannon walked over and grabbed it for her. ”Here, you lost this.” It wasn’t often that the girl did nice things for other people, even little things like picking up a dropped item. But if Rhi was going to make entertainment out of this girl’s obsession, she could at least to her a favor. Turning her attention to Zaryn, she smirked slightly. ”Welcome to Vancouver. Home of rain, rain, and well, more rain.” Her tone wasn’t exactly welcoming, but she did her best not to make it sound rude. She didn’t offer up any information about herself, but the singer probably didn’t care who she was anyways.

Sighing lightly, Zaryn made her way over to the two sofas on the other side of the lobby to sit and wait out the rain. Vancouver, it seemed, was bipolar. One moment it could be so sunny it hurt your eyes -- and the next the skies would open up and cry a river just for you. And a million other people. Maybe a couple rivers for every body in the city. God, she hoped she wasn't going to get the hotel's pretty couches all wet. The bored-looking guy checking people in nearby didn't look too worried, though, so maybe it didn't matter. Or maybe he just didn't care.
An over-exaggerated gasp broke into Zaryn's thoughts, so loud it seemed to echo all around the hotel lobby. There was a brown-haired girl sitting on the other couch with a pair of wide, chocolate-coloured eyes and an expression more shocked than Zee had ever seen; and it was all directed at Zaryn. Zee shot a tiny smile at the girl, bracing herself for the screams that were sure to come after a gasp like that.
Chocolate Eyes jumped up and booked it over to the bored-looking guy's desk, snatching a pen from its wooden surface and ignoring the weak protest from said bored guy. Zee almost burst out laughing, but she held it in just in time; it would look strange to sit there with her laughter carrying all around the little lobby, and she wasn't in the mood for a rumour about how she needed to go to some mental home because she'd been laughing at an inexplicable joke in a hotel.
The girl with the overly scary gasps and the dark chocolate-coloured eyes and the stolen pen was back, standing in front of Zaryn as if to purposely block her view of the sky and its tears. "Zaryn, Zaryn!" she almost shouted, like Zee didn't know her own name. "I'm Shona Dillards, I'm a huge fan. Please, can I have your autograph?"
Zee shot a quick smile at the girl. "Hi, Shona," she said, voice tainted with a tiny bit of hidden laughter that was impossible to push down completely. It was all bubbling up inside her and it was bound to come out sometime, she was sure. "I, um... would love to sign an autograph for you." But as she looked at the girl's pen-bearing hands, she could feel her face turning into the slightest of frowns. "What is it that you want me to sign...?"
As if in another shocked response, Shona Dillards promptly dropped Bored Guy's pen onto the hardwood floor, staring at Zaryn with wide eyes. Zee tried not to let the laughter come up even now, and it was hard, so hard. And just like that, someone else was picking up the pen and holding it out to Chocolate Eyes with an awkward smile. "Here. You lost this." She was older than the other girl, with brown hair just a shade darker and straighter, and eyes the same colour. Vaguely, Zaryn wondered if they were related, but the way the new girl spoke to the World's Biggest Zaryn Oliver Fan told her the answer was no.
The newcomer turned to face Zee, eyes shining as she looked down at her. She was smiling, but the way it turned her lips up, she didn't seem to have any good intentions behind it. "Welcome to Vancouver," she said, sounding almost as bored as Mr Bored over behind the desk. "Home of rain, rain, and... well, more rain."
Now Zaryn even allowed a little bit of that repressed laughter to come out, just enough to make her sound polite but not crazy. "Clearly," she said, her smile growing from slightly bemused to a real smile. "Is this place always this bipolar, or just whenever I'm here?"
